Are freelibs coming back? (Low priority, obviously)

Reported by swmartian | August 1st, 2009 @ 03:46 PM | in emergencyPants 1.2.0 - Dr. Henry Killinger and his Magic Murder Bag

Perusing through the archives, I just happened upon the week of April 23-29, 2001. These apparently used to be Sluggy Freelibs, and now each has a placemarker that goes:

"A long time ago Shirt Guy Tom programmed some Sluggy Style Madlibs that went here. Alas, we've moved servers a couple of times since then, and the old freelibs no longer work. We intend to have them reinstated someday, but for now, skip to the next week."

Actually, Thursday, April 26 comes up as "Internal Server Error"

Obviously this has very low priority. I'm only curious as to whether there are any plans to restore these eventually? Or are they lost for good?

20010423 seems to also cause a good ol' internal server error 500.

I'm working on the internal server errors; they should be solved today.

As for Freelibs, we will see what we can do. It's an old feature that relied on a lot of old code that we don't support on our server anymore. I'll poke around with Tom and see what we come up with.

Well, I never got to see Sluggy Freelibs, but I'm guessing that it was just some PHP stuff that would take your text and automagically render it into the original image? I think that would be able to be fixed as a separate script, maybe have it auto-add a comment that says something along the lines of "Go [INSERT LINK HERE]here[/INSERTED LINK] for Sluggy Freelibs" and just put it at one of your old sub-domains, or a new one. freelibs.sluggy.com, anyone? That'd be kinda cool.
